The delicate choreography of a strong mind - Portrait of a young dancer
Olivia’s mom got her a photo shoot as a present. It was the end of winter at the beach in Helsinki. I only had to carry my camera and the studio lights while she had to wear dance clothes. It was cold and windy, and the sea was still covered with ice.
Olivia is on her way to become a professional, talented ballet and contemporary dancer. She asked for a photo where her fine dance pose would be in contrast with a chaotic, dramatic environment.
Talking about how hard it is to be in front of the camera I often joke about the fact that I’m the one who set his own head on fire for the love of art. But I can tell you, I wasn’t that young.
She had to jump and pose on the ice, on the border with the water with the wind and everything for over half an hour until we’ve got it right. Never the less we went to a Café Ursula and had had hot cocoa and a piece of cake to recover… just to continue working again for a while.
These photos are not just my work and my vision but hers too. He actual career has not even started yet. She's very decided. I look forward to seeing what else she will do in the decades to come.
